Good Mind MD Chicago Alicja Wasilewski, MD · Psychiatry

Psychiatry begins with how the body feels from the inside.

A psychiatric practice in Oak Brook, Illinois, with two jobs: evaluating whether Exomind neuromodulation is right for you, and treating the metabolic physiology that decides how well your brain works and how long it stays that way. The thinking behind it is explored in my forthcoming book Brain Spam (Coming soon).

Philosophy

Interoception

Every mood, every surge of anxiety, every flat morning starts as a signal from the body that the brain reads and turns into feeling. This is interoception, and it is where I begin.

Most psychiatric care listens to the story a patient tells. I also listen to the signals underneath it: what the metabolic labs show, how the nervous system is pacing itself, what the skin is reporting, and how the body is being fed and rested. When those signals are distorted, the brain draws distorted conclusions. At this point, no amount of talking changes a signal the body keeps sending.

So treatment here works on both ends. Metabolic psychiatry addresses how the body is fed, fueled, moved, rested, and affected by inflammation—changing what the body sends. The daily habits that shape that physiology are part of the prescription. Targeted neuromodulation with EXOMIND changes how the brain receives those signals. Specific psychotherapy can amplify its effectiveness.

The aim is not just fewer symptoms, but a body and brain that read each other accurately for decades. That is what longevity means in psychiatry: a brain that stays clear and a body that keeps it that way.

EXOMIND

The latest in TMS Technology

This is a focused practice. I do not replace your psychiatrist or therapist. I evaluate whether Exomind is a sound next step, deliver it when it is, and treat the metabolic physiology underneath so the result holds and the brain ages well. Adults 18 and over, in person in Oak Brook.

Evaluation

Exomind evaluation

A 90-minute psychiatric assessment: your history, current treatment, medical contraindications, and what your body signals say about how you are likely to respond. You leave with a clear answer, whether that is a course of Exomind, a different recommendation, or a referral back to your treating clinician.

Treatment

Exomind course

EXOMIND’s patented ExoTMS® technology is based on noninvasive transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), studied for decades in the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD).

Its FDA-cleared indications include treatment of depressive episodes and decreasing anxiety symptoms in adults with MDD who may have comorbid anxiety symptoms and have not achieved satisfactory improvement with prior antidepressant medication in the current episode. It is also cleared as an adjunctive treatment for adult obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and for MDD in patients aged 15–21.

This practice currently sees adults 18 and over. Whether a course is appropriate is determined through a psychiatric evaluation. Treatment is supervised by me and tracked with measured outcomes.

Integrated care

Metabolic psychiatry, advanced nutrition and longevity

Treatment here includes your physiology. Glucose and insulin, inflammation, lipids, thyroid, nutrient status, sleep and the gut are measured and treated as part of psychiatric care, because they are the signals the brain is reading. Leafy salad with figs, citrus, pomegranate seeds and cheese on a white plate. Nutrition is handled at a clinical level: microbiome and metabolic testing where indicated, targeted nutrients, and a precise food plan built from your results rather than general advice. So is the rest of the day: how you sleep, when you see daylight, how much you move and how hard, what you drink, and how your nervous system recovers from stress. These are prescribed and tracked like any other treatment. The goal is a longer, sharper healthspan, not just a quieter mood. Coordinated with your existing prescriber when you have one. Where medication management makes sense as part of the plan, I can provide it.

Questions

FAQ

Is Exomind the same as TMS?

Yes. Exomind is BTL's FDA-cleared transcranial magnetic stimulation system. It is a medical treatment, delivered in the practice and supervised by me.

Will you take over my psychiatric care?

That depends on you. Many patients keep their own psychiatrist or therapist, and I send a written summary back to them. If you prefer to have your medication managed here alongside the Exomind course, that is available too.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can contact the practice directly. If you have a treating clinician, I will ask for their input and keep them informed.

Do you see patients by video?

The evaluation and all Exomind sessions are in person in Oak Brook. Brief follow-ups can be by video for Illinois residents.

Do you take insurance?

No. The practice is self-pay. You receive a superbill to submit to your insurer for out-of-network reimbursement.

Do you treat children or provide emergency care?

No. The practice sees adults 18 and over. For an emergency, call 988 or 911.

Forthcoming book

Brain Spam (Coming soon)

My forthcoming book explores the thinking behind this practice: what is your body sending, and what is your brain making of it? It introduces the body-to-brain perspective that informs my approach to psychiatric care.
